Chailey Parish Magazine notes in January 1916 that William J Martin has attested for military service.  This is the only entry for this man although a William Thomas Martin does appear later (January 1918) as serving with the 1/5^th Buffs (East Kent Regiment).  It is possible that the two men are one and the same (the J having been transcribed as T) but there is nothing more to go on at this point in time.
